The Experience

Three Days. Three Unforgettable Milestones.

The Cast Recording Experience Program is unlike any musical theater intensive your child has attended. It’s not a class. It’s not a workshop. It’s a professional production experience — compressed into three extraordinary days.

Day 01 - Aug 21

Cast Recording Day

Your child steps into a professional recording studio to lay down vocal tracks for an ensemble song. Guided by Broadway vocal directors, they experience the real process behind every cast album — from mic technique to layered harmonies to the thrill of hearing their voice come to life in the mix.

Video Shoot In NYC
Day 02 - Aug 22

Music Video Shoot Day

The ensemble song comes to life on screen. Working with a professional film crew, students perform for the camera in a fully produced music video — a portfolio piece they can use for future auditions and college applications.

Day 03 - Aug 23

Cabaret Performance Day

Each student performs a solo song of their own choosing in a BSP-style cabaret show for family, friends, and industry guests at a premier NYC venue. Intimate, electric, and real — this is live performance at its most meaningful.

Why It’s Different

Real Credentials. Real Experience. Real Impact.

Most youth theater programs end with a recital. The Cast Recording Experience ends with a professional body of work your child actually owns.

  • A cast recording credit — not a participation trophy

In the professional theater world, a recording credit matters. Your child will have one from the very start of their journey.

  • A music video for their audition portfolio

College programs, summer intensives, and professional auditions increasingly want video submissions. Students leave with one that’s actually worth sharing.

  • Broadway professionals — not just teachers

Every coach, director, and vocal guide is an active industry professional. That relationship and perspective is irreplaceable.

  • By audition only — which means something

An invitation into this program means our team of Broadway industry professionals saw something in your child — a voice, a presence, a spark — that they believe is ready to be taken to the next level.

“The Broadway Star Project doesn’t just train young performers — it gives them the kind of professional experience that most working adults have never had. This is what it actually feels like to be part of something real.”

Is This Right for My Child?

Who This Program Is Built For

The Cast Recording Experience is a significant commitment — and an extraordinary opportunity. Here’s an honest look at who thrives in this program.

A great fit if your child…

Has a genuine love of musical theater and singing. Has some performance experience (school productions, community theater, lessons). Is ready to take direction from industry professionals. Wants to build a real performance portfolio — not just participate.

Worth considering if your child…

Is brand new to performance and still developing foundational skills. Struggles in unfamiliar performance environments. Our other BSP programs may be a better starting point — and a great path toward this one.

Students aged 9–18 who…

Dream of performing on Broadway someday — or simply want the most authentic professional musical theater experience available to young artists in New York City.

Alumni and returning BSP students

If your child has participated in previous BSP programs, the Cast Recording Experience is the natural next level — a chance to put everything they’ve learned to work in a fully professional context.

About the Program

What Is The Cast Recording Experience?

The Cast Recording Experience is exactly what it sounds like: a structured program in which musical theater students record an ensemble song in a professional recording studio — the same environment used by working Broadway productions. At The Broadway Star Project, we’ve designed this experience specifically for young artists ages 9–18 who are serious about musical theater, pairing the recording with a music video production and a live cabaret-style performance to create a truly complete professional experience.

Unlike traditional musical theater summer programs or acting workshops, our Cast Recording Experience Program is structured around output — real, professional work your child creates and owns. A cast recording credit. A music video. A live performance. These aren’t simulations. They’re the real thing.

Why New York City? Why The Broadway Star Project?

There’s nowhere in the world like New York City for young musical theater students. Every professional our team works with is an active part of Broadway’s creative community — not a retired teacher running a studio program. The Broadway Star Project was built on the belief that young performers deserve access to the same professional experiences that working Broadway actors have — and that the best way to train for that world is to actually be inside it.

Our Cast Recording Experience is by audition only — which is intentional. The audition process itself is part of the training. Learning how to present yourself, how to handle an audition environment, and how to receive feedback from industry professionals are skills that serve young artists far beyond any single program.

Musical Theater Programs for Kids in NYC: What to Look For

If you’re searching for musical theater programs for kids in New York City, you’ve likely encountered a wide range of options. The questions to ask any program: What does my child walk away with? Who are the teachers, and are they active professionals? What does the performance experience look like? Is it a real audience or just a showcase for parents?

At The Broadway Star Project, our answer to every one of those questions is specific and verifiable. Your child walks away with a cast recording, a music video, and a live performance credit. Our coaches are Broadway professionals. Our performance venues are real NYC stages. And our audiences include industry guests who come because they want to see what young talent looks like at its most genuine.

The Value of a Cast Recording for Young Performers

In the professional musical theater world, a recording credit signals that a performer has been part of a real production — that they can hold their own in a studio environment, take direction on vocal performance, and contribute to a collaborative ensemble work. For young artists, having that experience even once fundamentally changes how they understand the craft and how they present themselves in future auditions.

Pair that with a music video in their portfolio and a live solo cabaret performance, and your child leaves this program with more professional-grade material than most students accumulate in years of traditional training.

This is what a professional musical theater career feels like from the inside.
